Matty Vasilis is a fiction and poetry writer whose work draws inspiration from storytelling traditions, his Greek heritage, personal histories, and queer narratives. He has released three poetry chapbook-zines and a poetry album that merge visual arts, music production, and design with writing. His creative practice is rooted in reconnection, landscape, and transformation. Matty completed a BA and MA in history at the University of Guelph with a specialization in legal and Indigenous histories. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at UVic where he is developing a novel about a Greek-Canadian man returning to postwar 1960’s Greece. The novel will explore the pull between desire and belonging against the backdrop of dictatorship and a diasporic identity.
