Writing for children and teens, creative nonfiction, journalism, communications, editing.

Sara Cassidy's essays, fiction and poetry have been published in The Malahat Review, Geist, Fiddlehead, Grain, Prairie Fire, CV2, Barren Magazine, and other literary journals. Her poetry won the Atlantic Writing Prize and appeared in Best Canadian Poetry. Her hundreds of feature articles, columns and reviews have appeared in such places as the Winnipeg Free Press, Halifax Chronicle Herald, Focus Magazine, and the Globe and Mail. A piece for Today's Parentwon a National Magazine Award (Gold). Sara's 23 books for children and teens include finalists for the Governor General's Literary Award, TD Canadian Children's Literature Award, Chocolate Lily Award, City of Victoria Children's Book Prize, and the Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic. Her book Genius Jolene won a BC Book Prize. Sara has worked as a newspaper reporter, editor, treeplanter (in five Canadian provinces), and a human rights witness. She lives in Victoria, B.C., and works in program and policy communications for the Ministry of Health. She was the first graduate of UVic Writing's MFA program!
