Dr. Christian Bock joins the University of Victoria as the Director of Curriculum and Teaching Innovation, bringing extensive experience from his tenure at the UWC Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, Germany. Dr. Bock completed his Ph.D. at the University of Victoria, specializing in Canadian Literature, Theories of Culture, Gender and Performance, and Pedagogy. His doctoral research on nationalism, gender, and women’s drama in Canada from 1880 to 1940 was nominated for the Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal in 2020.

Before joining UVic, Dr. Bock held various roles in academia, including the founding Director of Studies at UWC Robert Bosch College and IBEN Lead Educator and member of the Diploma Review Board for the International Baccalaureate in The Hague. His professional journey is marked by significant contributions to curriculum development, particularly in implementing programs that integrate educational technologies with pedagogically sound practices. Dr. Bock is also recognized for his leadership in interdisciplinary teaching and the development of inclusive educational strategies.

Dr. Bock is committed to advancing teaching excellence and curriculum innovation. His professional interests lie in harnessing digital education to enhance learning outcomes, integrating technology in classroom settings, and promoting inclusive educational practices. He has been actively involved in various international educational committees, contributing to global education strategies and fostering collaboration among educational institutions.

Dr. Bock's recent work includes membership in the UWC Anti-Racism Committees and the German School Prize Jury, demonstrating his commitment to equity and inclusion in education. He was a member of the IB Language and Culture curriculum development team and has participated in the OECD Education Compass 2030 Focus Group, aligning educational practices with future global competencies.

Through his role at the University of Victoria, Dr. Bock aims to influence the next generation of teaching innovations, ensuring that academic programs not only meet the highest educational standards but also prepare students for a rapidly changing global landscape.
