Professional competencies

Professional competencies are skills, knowledge and attributes that are specifically valued by the professional associations, organizations and bodies connected to your future career.

For example, if you want to become an engineer, you'll need to demonstrate certain competencies to meet the standards of Engineers Canada, a national organization that regulates the practice of engineering in Canada.

Professional associations

Joining professional associations related to your field is a great way to:

  • meet contacts
  • keep up-to-date with happenings in your area or industry
  • hear about opportunities

from our academic experiences resources to see which professional associations you can connect with.

How to use them

See using competencies to learn how to use, measure and describe your competencies.
