Welcome to Medieval Studies. Since its beginning in the 1980s, the program has grown to be one of a few in North America to study the Global Middle Ages. Our students work with scholars from across different disciplines and discover a captivating and interconnected world.

The Middle Ages are sometimes idealized as a time of sophisticated romance and chivalry. More often, the medieval period is regarded as a dark time. Reality is far more complex. Study a range of extraordinary and influential artistic, intellectual, and social achievements.
