Indigenous Recognition Ceremony

irc 2024 page

The IACE Indigenous Recognition Ceremony is a unique celebration incorporating traditional Coast Salish blanketing ceremony. The ceremony provides an opportunity for graduates, their families, friends, Elders and the university community to come together to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Indigenous students who have reached this significant milestone in their academic journey.

How to participate

If you are graduating in Spring or Fall, keep an eye on your email address for Save the Date from IACE or follow the IACE socials to receive upcoming IRC registration dates.

What to expect

The IACE Indigenous Recognition Ceremony opens with a warm Welcome to the Territory and a prayer by the Elders, setting the tone with a good heart and a good mind. Indigenous graduates, their friends, families, Elders, and the university community are invited to share a meal together before the ceremony begins. Following the meal, the cultural work commences, and each graduate will be individually recognized and presented with a gift from their faculty.
