Event-related potentials (ERPs) in cognitive neuroscience

Brain waves and cognitive function

In this seminar, we will explore the connection between the mind and brain using event-related potentials (ERPs).   In the first half of the course, students will learn the conceptual and technical principles involved in EEG research.  Students will then be trained in the proper EEG data collection techniques (e.g., application of the electrode cap, checking impedances, running experiments) and EEG data analysis protocols.  As a capstone project, the seminar group will collectively design and pilot-test an original study examining cognitive function and electrophysiological activity.  The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills necessary to conduct EEG research.
