UVic Wi-Fi
UVic’s secure, high-speed wireless network is available to UVic students and employees. There are options available to visitors.
VPN
You can use UVic’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) to securely connect to the UVic network while you're working or studying off campus. The VPN encrypts your network traffic, which helps protect your security and privacy even on unsecured public Wi-Fi hotspots.
Many of UVic’s digital resources and apps aren’t available off campus unless you’re using the VPN.
Residence Internet
If you’re a student staying in UVic’s residence buildings or cluster housing, you have full Wi-Fi access through ResNet. You can use UVic Wi-Fi to connect your computer, phone and tablet. Each unit also has an Ethernet data port that can be activated by request.
A second network, UVic BYOD, supports devices like gaming consoles and smart TVs that don’t work on the UVic network.
Wired internet
The UVic wired network provides high-speed Internet access to dorm rooms, offices, and digital signs and appliances across campus. We can:
- Activate, troubleshoot, and repair data ports
- Install new network cables and data ports
- Help design and configure departmental networks
