We acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

The Department of Greek and Roman Studies occupies a unique position at the University of Victoria and within British Columbia.  As is the case with most departments focused on the Classical world, we are intrinsically interdisciplinary, covering the fields of literature, history, and archaeology. Yet within British Columbia, we are the only academic department at a major research university devoted solely to the Greek and Roman worlds widely conceived. Our teaching and research cover a vast range of cultural, temporal, and chronological areas, from the prehistoric periods to the Late Antique, from Spain to the Middle East and beyond.

The Department of Greek and Roman Studies invites applications from talented scholars for a position at the rank of Associate Professor (with tenure or with eligibility for tenure) to commence July 1, 2026.

Salary Range The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer.
