Active Earth Engineering Ltd. is offering a $2,500 award to an outstanding Indigenous student in the Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Science (alternating years), with priority given to members of the Songhees Nation, Esquimalt Nation, nations governed by the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council, or the Pauquachin, Malahat, and T’Sou-ke First Nations.

Active Earth is a BC-based multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm, founded in 2007 and named in recognition of the earth’s constantly changing state. The company, which started as a team of two, now operates 4 offices with over 35 staff, and offers a wide range of services in environmental, geotechnical, and hydrogeological fields. Today, Active Earth is one of BC’s most well-respected consulting firms whose corporate values include integrity, inclusiveness, honesty, sustainability, and teamwork. 

Active Earth has spent many years building relationships with First Nations communities in BC, and they are always cognizant of the fact that much of their work is conducted within Indigenous territories and pertains to property and resources. They aspire to walk gently and to be curious, open, respectful, and humble about their relationship to land and learning, while maintaining an ethos of collaboration and respect.  Accordingly, Active Earth is now pleased to be able to help support Indigenous students who are studying in STEM fields and are local to the University of Victoria. Moreover, they are humbled and grateful to be able to do so in collaboration with those at UVic who have long dedicated themselves to such important capacity-building work.
