Cassels Shaw Graduate Fellowship

Professor Jamie Cassels and Ms. Erin Shaw have a deep commitment to university education and research at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Erin Shaw is a graduate of UVic Law and a practicing lawyer, specializing in family law and access to justice initiatives.

Jamie Cassels is the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Victoria. Prior to assuming the presidency in 2013, he was UVic's vice-president academic and provost (VPAC) from 2001-10 and before that served as dean of the Faculty of Law. Professor Cassels and Ms. Shaw recognize the importance of providing support to future generations of young researchers.

In January 2016 they established the Cassels Shaw Graduate Fellowship. Professor Cassels was also instrumental in creating an awards program which provides support for exceptional third- and fourth-year undergraduate students to obtain direct research experience. The UVic Senate subsequently honoured Professor Cassels by naming the awards the "Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards".
