Eleanor Mitchell Allen Award in Nursing

The Eleanor Mitchell Allen Award in Nursing was established by Paddy McGowan in 2021 in memory of her good friend Eleanor Mitchell Allen who died on August 5, 2020 in Tillsonburg, Ontario.

Eleanor was born in Toronto in 1939 and completed in her nursing education at the Toronto General Hospital in 1961. She spent most of her nursing career working as a head nurse at Toronto General Hospital.

The Canadian Federation of University Women was founded in 1908. It is a voluntary, non-partisan, non-profit, self-funded club of approximately 210 members. They are active in supporting higher education for women and in advocating for women’s rights. This award is established by the CFUW Victoria Scholarship and Bursary Society through the generosity of Paddy McGowan and its members.
