George and Dorothy Smith were born in Edinburgh, Scotland on June 26, 1935 and February 2, 1937 respectively and moved to Victoria from Scotland two weeks after their wedding day in 1958.

George was a long time employee at the University of Victoria starting in 1972 in Purchasing Services where he went on to become the Manager from 1984 to his retirement in 2000.  During his tenure at UVic, George was the trainer of the Vikings men’s soccer team under the late Wally Milligan (Charter Member of the UVic Sports Hall of Fame) and went on to manage the team under head coach, Brian Hughes, as well as coaching the Norsemen from 1972-1980.  He was a part of UVic's first ever CIAU National Championship team in 1975 hosted at the University of Victoria.  George’s community service included working with the Vancouver Island Multiple Sclerosis Society, contributed to the Penny Saver community newspaper in his article “Sideline Chatter” and held numerous positions on the Vancouver Island Soccer League’s Board of Directors for ten years.

Dorothy worked for the Greater Victoria School District #61 for twenty-eight years spending twenty-one years at Braefoot Elementary School before moving to the School Board Office for seven years.  Dorothy was the host to both the Vikings and the Norsemen in their official “clubhouse” in the Smith’s basement.

The Smith’s have two son’s Keith (BA- Computer Science  in 1985) and Murray (BA-Economics in 1989).  Keith played soccer for the Vikings from 1977-1980.  He is currently married with two boys and is an accountant and partner at Green, Horwood, Munro & Tuckey in Victoria.  Murray is married with a son and daughter and is currently working for the BC Provincial Government in Victoria.

George enjoys golfing and painting, while Dorothy enjoys golfing, reading and curling.  They both continue to volunteer for many sporting events in Victoria including The Royal Victoria Marathon, triathlon events and were the Ambassadors to the Scottish team at the 2005 World Curling Championships.
