Hart Will Graduate Fellowship in Indigenous Governance and Leadership

While developing the Information Systems Program at UBC, Dr. Hartmut Will was invited by Professors Reid Elliott and Neill Swainson to teach a new course on Management Information Systems in the Executive Development Training Program (EDTP) from 1970 on.

Dr. Will became a Professor in the School of Public Information Systems in 1980 and retired in 2004. As a first-generation immigrant he was impressed by Taiaiake Alfred, the first director of the School of Indigenous Governance, and he even changed his office at the school to accommodate his team. Dr. Will says of Taiaiake Alfred, "He widened my eyes and mind and sensitized me as a new citizen to recognize the complex reality of Canada."

The Fellowship is intended to support aboriginal advanced or graduate students with an interest in administrative and constitutional law and the potential to contribute to the advancement of constitutional and democratic renewal in our country.
