James and Phillippa Kerr Graduate Scholarship in Nursing

Phillippa Kerr wishes to establish this scholarship in memory of her late husband James Ferguson Kerr and to honour their long careers dedicated to nursing practice and public health.

James Ferguson Kerr was educated in Carlyle, England and was a qualified psychiatric nurse, tuberculosis nurse and public health specialist. He had a certificate in hospital administration from the University of Saskatchewan and also held a degree in Political Science from the University of Victoria.

Mrs. Phillippa Kerr was educated in New Zealand and in England where she worked for seven years. Mrs. Kerr taught public health and worked in the BC Ministry of Health where she promoted home care nursing and long term care.

The James and Phillippa Kerr gift at the University of Victoria reflects the commitment the Kerrs have to the practice of nursing and community care as well as their realization of the need to support graduate nursing students.
