Joan Backus Scholarship in Music

Joan Backus received her Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Victoria in 1985. 

She taught history and theory in the School of Music for nearly 20 years, and also developed and taught an interdisciplinary course on Canadian culture in the Faculty of Fine Arts. 

In 1997, she received the University of Victoria Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching for her contributions to undergraduate and graduate education.
