(Information provided by Mrs. Brake)

George and Maude-Mary both came from England in 1912, met and were married in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Both were musical – played the piano and sang – and they began their daughter Joyce’s musical education when she was six.  This was a gift which has enriched her whole life.

Long ago, Joyce earned an A.T.C.M. and L.T.C.L while in Regina, then a Bachelor of Education with a music major from the University of Victoria.  She taught privately and in the public schools system.

Joyce and her husband Don have always loved music and enjoyed watching young musicians progress.  It is hoped that this Scholarship, established by Joyce after Don’s passing, will assist and inspire young musicians at the University of Victoria for many years to come.
