The Lindgren Wade Award for Community Engagement was established by Alastair Wade, B.A., LLB (1975, University of Victoria; 1980, University of British Columbia).

It is named in honour of his mother Elizabeth Lindgren who attended Victoria College, the precursor to the University of Victoria, in the 1930s and for his father William J.J. Wade. Elizabeth, like so many of her classmates at the time, was unable to complete her education due to the outbreak of World War II. William, although he possessed an inquiring intellect, came of age during the Great Depression and was financially unable to pursue higher education.

Both Elizabeth and William believed in the value of community service. It is the intent of this award to financially support students so that they may continue their studies and reach their full potential.
