Marilyn McCrimmon Scholarship in Education

Marilyn McCall began her post-secondary education at Camosun College in 1971, after graduating from Esquimalt High School. Two years later, she entered the faculty of psychology at UVic, completing a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Psychology in 1975. She followed that with a teaching diploma and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, before graduating from UVic in April 1978.

Marilyn’s 35-year career as a counselor included positions at the Boys’ Alternative School, Harbour View Junior High, Spectrum Community School, Esquimalt High School, Lansdowne Junior High School, and Oak Bay High School. Through a special UVic/secondary school partnership program that lasted a few years, she was seconded to work in UVic’s counseling department for a memorable year in the early 90s. During a two-year leave of absence from the Victoria School District starting in 1994, she did contract work in the counseling departments at both UVic and Camosun College.

Marilyn enjoyed her years at UVic and found that all aspects of the Counselling Psychology Masters program – courses, professors and fellow grad students -contributed to a stimulating and rewarding experience. She was grateful for the financial help she received throughout her post-secondary schooling and now she wants to pay it forward. She hopes that each year’s recipient will also go on to a career in education that they find both enjoyable and rewarding.
