Dr. Marion Porath Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Voice

Dr. Marion Porath, B.Ed, MA, (UBC), Ph.D. (UofT, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) taught for over ten years in the public school system in the primary grades. Many of those years were in an open-area setting in Mission, B.C. Marion was very creative and artistic and encouraged these traits in her students. Her focus at UBC was in high ability in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education.

She was very supportive of the arts and in the 25 years she and her husband Merv lived in Vancouver they attended many performances at Granville Island and the Stanley Theatre, Bard on the Beach for the annual Shakespeare festival, and many opera performances at UBC.

Dr. Porath’s arts-based research led her to work with many young opera singers and so it is in that spirit that these scholarships are established.
