Mackenzie Rigg Men's Soccer Award

Mackenzie Rigg passed away on March 11, 2022, 19 months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Mackenzie was perhaps best known for his skill and dedication on the soccer pitch. His career started with kick and run soccer at age three, and culminated in being named captain of the UVIC Vikes varsity soccer team. His sense of work ethic served him scholastically as well; Mackenzie was named All Canadian Athlete twice, and had recently earned a spot in law school at the University of Calgary.

Throughout his twenty-seven years, Mackenzie threw himself into the sport of life wholeheartedly. He had an incredible sense of fun, and was always seeking out adventure. His friends and family always knew him to be planning an excursion, whether that meant surfing in Tofino, driving his converted minivan to the Yukon, or rock climbing in Hong Kong.

Mackenzie was always a friend and a leader, but in cancer he became a hero. Throughout his battle, Mackenzie was an example of what it meant to meet challenges with positivity and bravery.
