Stephen and Harriet Wender Scholarship

Stephen and Harriet Wender had a deep affinity for the life of the mind and myriad forms of critical inquiry, traits that they sought to share with, and instill, in their family. Moreover, they had sincere respect and affection for the University of Victoria, especially UVic’s fostering of interdisciplinary studies in which the humanities play an integral part.

They encouraged me (Andrew Wender) to pursue my Ph.D. at UVic, and were tirelessly supportive of my academic pursuits, up through my having had the good fortune to become a UVic faculty member.

In sum, UVic – and, in particular, UVic graduate studies across the humanities and disciplines beyond – have been vital to us, for which we would like to express gratitude in honor of our parents.
