The Department of Geography is proud to announce that Dr. Chris Bone, Associate Professor of Geography, has been awarded the 2025 Above and Beyond Award by the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Victoria. As an Associate Professor in Geography, Chris has gone above and beyond in developing new professional training opportunities in the field of geospatial analysis.

As one faculty member noted, "Chris spearheaded the BC Climate Intelligence Network which brought UVic Geography and professionals from industry, government, First Nations, and non-profit organizations together with a goal of developing a societal needs-driven curriculum that serves to further enhance their GIS technical expertise....Chris has also gone above and beyond to develop a micro-credential program
that allows the wider community to enhance their geo-spatial skills."

The Above and Beyond Awards celebrate individuals or teams of faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Social Sciences who have gone above and beyond their role in contributing to the campus community at the University of Victoria or the wider community. Chris’s work is a shining example of the impactful, community-engaged scholarship and innovation these awards celebrate.

Congratulations, Chris!
