Teacher Education: Indigenous Education (post-degree professional program)

Bachelor of Education (BEd)

The Indigenous Education post-degree professional program is designed to enhance relational accountabilities with local Indigenous people and communities. It provides aspiring teachers (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) with a relevant, relational, and transformative education designed to foster a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis histories, cultures, and ways of knowing and being.

Graduates are eligible to apply for the BC Teaching Professional Certificate of Qualification.

If you don't have a bachelor's degree, you can apply to the Teacher Education: Elementary Curriculum program.

  • Applications for September 2025 are ongoing.

Admission requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized institution that is acceptable to the University of Victoria.
  • A minimum average of "C+" (3.00 on the UVic 9-point scale) on the most recent 12 UVic units attempted (24 credits = approximately 8 courses).
  • A minimum average of "C+" (3.00 on the UVic 9-point scale) on the most recent two full years of courses attempted (30 UVic units = 60 credits).

Note: 3.0 UVic units are equivalent to two half-year courses or 6 credits at most BC colleges and universities.

Course and experience requirements

In addition to the minimum admission requirements, you must:

English language proficiency

You must demonstrate English language proficiency to attend UVic. Your transcripts are enough to prove proficiency if you've studied full-time in an academic program at the high school or post-secondary level within Canada for at least four years, and all of your instruction was in English.
