Celebrating UVic's Faculty of Health

May 1, 2025

Dear colleagues,

As of today, May 1, 2025, we are proud to officially launch the Faculty of Health at the University of Victoria.

This exciting milestone represents a bold step forward in UVic’s commitment to advancing health education, research, and community engagement. The Faculty of Health brings together a rich array of programs and expertise to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in both scholarship and practice.

We are also delighted to welcome  as the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Health, who begins her five-year term today. Dr. Hopper brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and vision to this role, and she will lead the Faculty in developing a mandate, identifying strategic priorities and supporting change.

Rooted in principles of equity, inclusion, and social accountability, the Faculty of Health positions UVic to address some of the most pressing and complex health challenges of our time. It will also serve as a vital training ground for the next generation of health scholars, researchers, practitioners, and leaders.

I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the important changes taking place within the Faculties of Education and Social Sciences today, with several schools moving to new homes. These changes reflect a shared vision and commitment to deepening collaboration across disciplines in support of transformative education and research.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the development and launch of the Faculty of Health and to all our faculty, staff and students who are instrumental to its success. We look forward to all that lies ahead as we begin this exciting new chapter together.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Croft, PhD
Vice-President Academic and Provost
University of Victoria
